Back in 2018 as part of our celebration of 3rd Degree’s 20th birthday, we did a ranking of every jersey in FC Dallas history. After our initial ranking, we opened voting up to fans and these were the results (which I originally posted on twitter here).
General Notes
- The wasabi green kits did really poorly as did most of the ‘solid’ white jerseys.
- “Mostly” red is the big winner with 9 of the top 13 belonging to this general category.
- Most all the wider hoops jersey fell in the middle of the pack, with blue and white often just edging out the red and white.
- The thin ‘pinstripe’ hoops are the big winners with 5 of the top 9.
On with the results.
#29 – 2006-2007 Tigres Tribute Third
This was the clearly most hated kit with double the last place votes of any other jersey (15). The highest placing was one 5th place vote.
#28 – 2005 ‘Solid’ Grey Secondary
A really consistently low finisher. Only three last-place votes but 10 votes in the 15th spot and most of the rest between there and the bottom.
#27 – 2000 Burn Wasabi and White Secondary
Often hated with the 2nd most last-place votes (7) but also strangely loved with 13 votes in the top 8.
#26 – 2017-2018 Stars at Night Secondary
1 first-place vote and 3 seconds, but a whole lot of dislike with 12 next to last votes.
#25 – 1996 Wasabi & White with Burn Logo Secondary
It seems people don’t like white or wasabi. Although this did get two second-place votes.
#24 – 2003-2004 Solid White Secondary
Boring kits are average… Bizarrely 11 votes in 13th place.
#23 – 2008-2009 Blue & White Hoops Secondary
The lowest-performing hoop. Strange statistical burp with 13 votes in the 20th spot. So not hated but generally not liked.
#22 – 2008-2009 Red & White Hoops Primary
So it seems people don’t like the angled side bit. Just like it’s partner, the blue/white 08/09 kit, it got 13 votes in the 19th spot.
#21 – 2006-2007 Grey & White Hoops Secondary
Got 1 first-place vote. And 13 votes in the 17th spot. Did 13 of you get together and vote? The lowest ranking jersey without a last-place vote.
#20 – 2012-2013 Red & White Hoops Primary
I expected this to be higher. 2 first-place votes. But also 1 last place vote and 14 votes in the 23rd spot.
#19 – 2005 Red & White Hoops Primary
The first full hoops and the FCD rebrand. 0 first and 0 last votes. Lots of middle of the pack.
#18 – 2001-2002 White Secondary
Clean look. Three last place votes but 19 votes in the top 10.
#17 – 2015-2016 Blue & White Hoops Secondary
The ‘whitest’ blue/white hoop. Votes all over the place, 16 votes in the bottom 5, and 17 votes in the top 9.
#16 – 2012-2014 Blue and White Hoops Secondary
Another one with votes all over the place. 16 top 10 votes but 10 votes in the 24th spot.
#15 – 2006-2007 Red & White Hoops Primary
Starting to get to the area where jerseys are generally well-liked. 1 first-place vote. 12 votes in the 16th spot. Lots of middle of the pack votes.
#14 – 2014-2015 Red on Red Hoops Primary
A contentious jersey. 3 first place, 4 second-place… but also 2 last place and 17 votes in the bottom 5. “The jersey that killed hoops.”
#13 – 2010-2011 Blue & White Hoops Secondary
The highest placed blue jersey. My favorite version of the blue/white hoops. Lots of middle of pack votes.
#12 – 2003-2004 Red Primary
The “Southlake” jersey. Much more liked than I anticipated. 1 first place vote. 0 votes in bottom four, 12 votes in the 12th spot and it finished 12th.
#11 – 1996 Red Primary
Another kit drawing strong opinions. 4 first-place votes, 7 second-place votes, and 2 last-place votes with 6 votes total in the bottom 5.
#10 – 2018-2019 Texas Flag Primary
6 first-place votes and 23 votes in the Top 10. AND 7 last-place votes and 11 in the bottom 5. The ultimate love/hate jersey.
#9 – 2016-2017 Red on Red Hoops Primary
The lowest-ranked pinstripe hoop jersey. 4 first-place votes and 7 second-place but also 12 votes in the bottom 5.
#8 – 2010-2011 Red & White Hoops Primary
The highest-ranked ‘wide’ hoop. 3 first-place votes, 24 votes in the top 10.
#7 – 2001-2002 Red Primary
People like the red, I guess. 3 first-place, 3 second-place, 26 top-10 votes… and 1 last-place.
#6 – 1998-1999 White Pinstripe Hoop
No #1 votes, but 6 seconds, and 27 in the top 10. 1 last-place vote.
#5 – 1997 White Pinstripe Hoop Primary
3 first-place votes and 28 top 10. A few people hate this one, 1 last place and 5 in the bottom 5.
#4 – 2000 Red Primary
2 first place votes and 29 top 10s.
#3 – 1997 Red with Pinstripe Hoops Secondary
This is my personal #1. 6 first-place votes, 5 second, 4 third, 5 fourth, and 6 fifths. Someone hates it though, 1 last place vote.
#2 – 2001-2002 Black Third
This is a damn good looking kit. Not that I would want #FCDallas to wear black all the time. 5 first-place votes and 30 in the top 10. 10 more in the 11th spot. Almost always well-liked, only 4 votes in the bottom 10.
#1 – 1998-1999 Red Pinstripe Hoops
The FC Dallas fan-favorite by a good margin. 8 first-place votes. 5 seconds, 7 thirds, 6 fourths, & 8 fifths. 41 votes in the top 10 & 34 in the top 5. Long live red kits and pinstripe hoops. (And black shorts!)
