The launch of the FC Dallas USL-1 affiliate club North Texas SC is getting closer and that means their kit launch is right around the corner. We’re big into uniform and kit design at 3rd Degree so just like we did prior to the new FC Dallas secondary kit we thought it would be fun to throw some kit ideas against the wall for the new North Texas Soccer Club uniforms.
This design was even more fun to do than the FCD secondary as we get to come up with both a primary and second kit. Unfortunately, due to spring break and other work commitments, I wasn’t able to get as many people to create a concept this time.
What is particularly interesting is that while these designs were all done independently we all came up with the same core concept playing off the new club’s badge. It’ll be fun to see if we all turn out to be correct with our guess.
Under each design, I’ve placed a short blurb from each creator about their design. I’ll start with my own because why not.
All Sash Concept – Buzz Carrick (@3rdDegreeNet)
Buzz says: At the North Texas SC branding event hosted by FC Dallas, Dan Hunt seemed to dwell on the slash in the logo quite a bit. So for my kit design, I latched onto that concept in a River Plate or Peru style using the color palette from the North Texas logo (above with the title on this post).
While these above kits combos are my preferred kit patterns, the shorts are interchangeable in case the team on the road needs to use an “all-dark” kit which would be all navy blue or an “all-light” kit which would be all white/grey.
All Red with Slash – by Dan Crooke (@Crooke86)
Dan says: For the primary, I think NTXSC will do an adidas miTeam order. They’ve said they wanted to sell the jersey, and that’s been a popular option in USL. We know they’re following FC Dallas colors to a degree, which makes red and navy blue obvious choices. Dan Hunt also talked a lot about the sash in the logo – well miTeam has a sash pattern that you can add to the adidas Tiro 17 jersey. Red shorts and socks to finish.
On the secondary, I assume they will want a dark and light option and silver/grey features heavily in the logo. USL also comes under the youth setup, who typically order a very plain white away jersey for teams that don’t use the FC Dallas MLS kits. You can’t order the grey via miTeam with customization, but it is one of adidas’ teamwear options so I think that will just be straight out of the catalog with navy shorts and socks that can interchange with the red.
Adidas Style Sash and Classic – by William Geddes (@william_geddes1)
William says: I wanted to create a classic primary kit design that fits both within the brand and colors of North Texas Sc, but also is a familiar and classic look for both soccer fans and sports fans in North Texas. For the secondary kit, I went with a more on brand retro Adidas inspired design.
Burn Throwback and Sash – by John Lenard (@JohnMLTX)
John says: For the primary, I went with a bit of an homage to the 1997-1999 Dallas Burn jerseys based on how they were reimagined by FC Dallas in 2016. It’s the classic red-and-white hoops, but with the current blue sleeves from the ‘Flag of Texas’ kit. It ties the second team in with the first team’s history and makes for a familiar yet distinct identity.
For the secondary, I based it primarily off the crest for North Texas SC, incorporating the grey sash across the blue central disc. I like taking the ideas from a crest and expanding on them, and this is a nice way of doing so while making something clean and simple.
So we’re all in on the sash. What would you have done? Like our kits? Do you think North Texas SC will do something different? Hit us up on twitter or facebook to let us know.
