Moises Hernandez loaned to San Antonio FC

FC Dallas defender Moises Hernandez was missing from FC Dallas training on Wednesday because, according to Head Coach Luchi Gonzalez, Hernandez has been loaned to San Antonio FC.   Coach Gonzalez also confirmed FC Dallas retains the right of recall on Hernandez at any time.

Update: the loan was officially announced by FC Dallas on Thursday.

At the age of 27, Hernandez is no longer a player that the club should be looking to develop for the future. He is in effect an insurance policy.  Loaning Hernandez out to a USL side is about getting and keeping him game fit and sharp so that if he is needed in an MLS game he will be ready to play.  Coach Gonzalez says they expect Hernandez to see plenty of playing time at San Antonio.

As for why the club would loan Hernandez to San Antiono FC when they have their USL-1 side, North Texas SC, the answer is that SAFC, who plays in the USL Championship, is a higher level of competition.  Playing in the USL-C will be a greater help to Hernandez in readying for MLS action if called upon.  North Texas SC is for FC Dallas more about developing young talent out of the Academy and less about keeping MLS backups fit.

In addition, Hernadez knows Spurs and their coaches know him after playing on loan there last season (6 games).  Hernandez was red carded on one occasion for San Antonio last year.
