North Texas SC announced today the signing of FC Dallas Academy goalkeeper Nico Montoya to a two-year MLS NEXT Pro contract with a club option for 2027.
“Nico has worked tremendously hard to be where he is at. He’s a young goalkeeper with a lot of potential,” North Texas SC head coach John Gall said. “He’s brave, has safe hands, and is comfortable with his feet in the build. We have a long lineage of fantastic goalkeepers coming through our academy and I’m delighted for Nico that he’s earned this opportunity as a professional. I am confident that this will be the first of many contracts in his future.”
Montoya joined the U15 FC Dallas Academy in 2021 from the Cincinnati area. This spring, Montoya attended North Texas SC’s preseason camp and made two appearances. He was named to the FC Dallas preseason training camp roster in Algarve, Portugal. Montoya has been involved with many first-team training sessions over the last few years.
3rd Degree’s Take
Montoya was #2 on my December Academy signing target list, as FCD has been giving him the “next pro” treatment after Julian Eyestone left. Montoya has a solid tool set and profile, but will need some playing time and progression before he’ll be ready for the next level.
According to our sources, this is a straight North Texas SC MLS Next Pro contract.
