Texoma FC fall 4-1 to begin their first road trip of the season

Texoma FC lost their 4th straight league match after falling to Spokane Velocity 4-1.

Texoma saw a few changes in the starting eleven. Captain Jordan Chavez was out injured, and Preston Kilwein was benched, which led to Reid Valentine and Patrick Staszewski as the centerback pairing. Teddy Baker started in midfield, and Ajmeer Spengler returned from his red card suspension.

Manager Adrian Forbes made a small formation adjustment from the 4-4-2 diamond we have seen the past couple of weeks, to a 4-2-3-1. JP Jordan and Teddy Baker served as the double pivot, Solomon Asante was tasked with pulling the strings from the 10 role.

Spokane Velocity controlled the game from kickoff. 20 seconds into the match, Staszewski was called into action and prevented what looked to be an early goal. Spokane saw multiple chances in the first ten minutes but failed to convert. Finally, former North Texas SC captain Derek Waldek found the back of the net in the 13th minute to put Spokane Velocity up 1-0.

Texoma, at moments, looked to slowly grow into the game, but their first shot on goal did not come until the 46th minute when Ajmeer Spengler’s shot was collected by Spokane’s goalkeeper.

The 1-0 score would hold going into halftime.

At halftime, Forbes took off McManus, who was injured earlier in the match, and recent signing Brayan Padilla was brought on.

In what turned out to be a chaotic stretch of the match, Spokane doubled its lead in the 55th minute.

Shortly after, Texoma midfielder Spengler cut the lead in half with a left-footed shot from the top of the box in the 60th minute.

Spokane once again doubled its lead in the 62nd minute.

Texoma was unable to work their way back into the match, and in the 75th minute, Spokane wrapped the match up with a goal on the counterattack to secure the 3 points with a 4-1 win.

Leland Gray made a short cameo, coming on for Spengler in the 86th minute.

Through 4 league matches, Texoma has 0 points with a -10 goal difference, scoring 2 goals and allowing 12. They will look to get their first result of the season against Forward Madison FC on April 19th.
