Dallas Trinity faced off against Brooklyn FC on Wednesday night in what coach Brooklyn Coach Jess Silva called a “redemption match,” a match that quickly turned into a redemption fail.
“Tonight, we knew that they were going to come after us and it was going to be a very physical game. We wanted to stick by our philosophy in the way that we want to play.”
Trinity Head Coach Pauline MacDonals
Head Coach Pauline MacDonald made only one change in the lineup from their previous match with Gracie Brian getting the start over Deborah Abiodun.
Brooklyn has been winless since December 14 when they beat Dallas on their home turf. Brooklyn’s evening started off as a nightmare. Goalkeeper Sydney Martinez made two huge errors leading to goals, first to Camryn Lancaster, then to Allie Thornton.
Thornton’s goal now moves her into first place in the USL Super League’s scoring, tied alongside Addie McCain with 9 goals in the race for the Golden Boot.
Dallas kept the pressure on, overwhelming a shocked Brooklyn defense. Brooklyn’s Forward-turned-defender Mackenzie George struggled against Tamara Bolt, who tore up Brooklyn’s backline. Just before the halftime whistle, Lexi Missimo was forced off with what appeared to be a knock to the head area. Cyera Hintzen came on as her replacement.
“I thought our press was really good. It wasn’t the prettiest game but I feel like we came out, put in all our effort and dominated tonight.”
Trinity Forward Camryn Lancaster
Dallas made one change at halftime, subbing out Chioma Ubogagu, who was relatively quiet in the first half, for young star Sealy Strawn.
Brooklyn had all the momentum coming out after the break, but it was Strawn who capitalized on a rebound from a powerful Lancaster shot to put in the final dagger for Dallas to go 3-0 up.
Goalkeeper Madison White had a busy second half, coming up with several clutch saves to get her league-leading seventh shutout of the season.
Dallas will square up next against Carolina Ascent on March 29 before returning home to face DC Power on April 2.
