According to multiple sources, FC Dallas has loaned Francis Atuahene and Ema Twumsi to Austin Bold of the USL-Championship. The loans have been in the works for a while and were set up to take place once FCD got through the roster gutting situation for the San Jose game.
Update – Tuesday, June 11, 12:34 pm: @ArmanKafai got confirmation from coach Luchi Gonzalez.
Both players are wing/forwards and were drafted in 2018 by FC Dallas, Atuahene 4th overall and Twumasi 11th overall. Both players have green cards.
Twumasi has played 3 regular season games for FC Dallas. Atuahene, who has struggled with a series of injuries since being drafted, made his MLS debut on Saturday at San Jose scoring a goal just seconds after coming on.
Our take is that both players need playing time. Both are in their second season and FC Dallas needs to see some progression. By loaning them to a USL-Championship team – a higher level of play than their own feeder team, North Texas SC – both these players can be tested while not taking PT from the kids developing in USL-1 with NTX.
We have no further details of the loans at this time.
