Atlanta United today announced the loan signing of Emerson Hyndman from AFC Bournemouth. In order to sign Hyndman, Atlanta United had to work a trade with FC Dallas to acquire his MLS rights.
FC Dallas receives an international roster slot in 2019 and 2020 and $200,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) in exchange for Hyndman’s discovery rights.
Emerson Hyndman was once a member of the FC Dallas Academy – while his grandfather Schellas Hyndman was the head coach of the MLS side – before moving to Fulham FC at 15 years of age.
While Hyndman never signed with FC Dallas, the Frisco based club maintained Hyndman’s discovery rights by which MLS clubs sign players.
FC Dallas did have some discussions with Hyndman prior to the 2019 season at the same time another MLS club was looking into acquiring the player.
FC Dallas now has 10 international slots for the remainder of 2019, two more than the normal 8, but will revert to 9 for 2020.
