FC Augsburg has announced the transfer of Carlos Gruezo from FC Dallas. The move was first reported as being in the process last week and 3rd Degree reported he was on his way to Germany for his physical a few days ago.
Update: 11:30 am CT on July 2 – MLSSoccer.com says the fee is $4.5 million and could go up to $6.2 million if certain incentives are met. There’s also a 20% sell on. $4.5 mil is a club sale record.
Gruezo was given a 5-year contract and is the 6th Augsburg signing this window.
“I’m delighted that FC Augsburg have given me the opportunity to return to Germany and play in the Bundesliga for the second time,” said Carlos Gruezo. The Ecuadorian made 18 appearances for VfB Stuttgart between January 2014 and December 2015, scoring once. “I have gathered a lot of important experience in Dallas and I now want to show that in Augsburg.”
Gruezo will wear the number 25 shirt for Augsburg.
FC Dallas paid $1.5 million to acquire Gruezo back in 2016.
