With the 1-0 win over the tournament no. 1 seed Central Florida, the no. 2 seed SMU Mustangs have won the 2019 American Athletic Conference Championship for the third straight season.
FC Dallas Academy product Eddie Munjoma scored the lone goal of the game and was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Offensive Player for the 10th ranked Ponies.
SMU and Denton Diablos Goalkeeper Grant Makela was named Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the tournament.
With the win, SMU is now automatically qualified for the NCAA Tournament. The draw for the tournament is set for Monday.
Other FC Dallas Academy Alumn in the game included Philip Ponder, Brandon Terwege, and Wyatt Priest. Solar SC Academy Alum DJ Williams and Dallas Texans Academy Alum Nicky Hernandez also played for SMU.
