Seven players from the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex are currently at the National Training Center in Carson, CA as the US U-17 and U-20 women’s’ national teams hold a joint camp.
The seven – five from Solar SC and two from FC Dallas – are part of a group of 54 players in camp as both age groups build to the 2020 FIFA World Cups. India will host the U-17 edition in November, while Nigeria is expected to be announced as the host for July’s U-20 Women’s World Cup.
FC Dallas’ Samar Guidry and Solar’s Samantha Meza are recalled while Mark Carr only brought in four college players due to the ongoing NCAA season. Guidry’s former FC Dallas and soon-to-be Virginia Caveliers teammates Taryn Torres and Diana Ordoñez are in North Carolina for an ACC Championship semi-final with Florida State ahead of a potential championship game on Sunday. On the other side of the bracket is Meza’s commit, North Carolina, under US Soccer Hall of Famer Anson Dorrance
The USSDA U-17 National Champion Solar SC dominates the U-17 camp with four players, while FC Dallas has one of their own. Goalkeeper Jordyn Gunnarsson gets the nod despite missing out on significant playing time with an FC Dallas side that is still feeling the loss of Jaedyn Shaw to Solar.
Shaw also makes the roster alongside Macy Blackburn and two of the nation’s leading scorers, Trinity Byars and Alexis Missimo. Missimo topped both the regular and postseason scoring charts in the U-17 USSDA last season, with a total of 62 goals. Byars was third in the regular season and only a goal behind Missimo in the play-offs with 10 goals.
