Ex-Sting, FCD midfielder Tillman claimed in NWSL Re-entry Wire

Sting Soccer Club product Kaycie Tillman may not have featured in the NWSL in 2019 after being drafted by back-to-back champions North Carolina Courage, but that hasn’t stopped the demand for the 22-year-old’s NWSL rights.

After spending preseason with the Courage, Tillman signed for Dutch professional side PSV Vrouwen, the women’s team for PSV Eindhoven. Seven games in to the Eredivisie season and PSV are unbeaten at the top of the table. The former FC Dallas WPSL player has featured in every game, with six starts and an appearance off the bench last week.

Tillman was one of five players claimed in the Re-Entry Wire as the Washington Spirit claimed the 2018 College Cup winner’s NWSL rights. It remains to be seen whether Tillman will link up with the Spirit in a crowded midfield that features Jordan DiBiasi – who recently finished third in voting for the NWSL Rookie of the Year – as well as team captain Andi Sullivan and World Cup winner Rose Lavelle.

Elsewhere in NWSL, fellow former Sting/FC Dallas midfielder Julie Doyle (formerly Julie James) has had her contract option exercised by Sky Blue FC. The former Baylor Bear recorded one assist in 16 games. Doyle also continued to earn a spot on the US U-23 WNT through her performances with the New Jersey club. Despite making huge strides off the field under new GM Alyse LaHue, Carli Lloyd’s uncertain future could have a big impact in the direction the team takes on the field.
